the quest for a 150 mph Bonneville record
rear facing gopro video of the run
We knew we were getting some water in the cylinders of the Fast Four Special at both El Mirage and on the dyno, but decided to move ahead with some cooling system changes that may have led to the steam pocket that overheated and damaged the motor. Regardless, the 88-year old Dodge Brothers flathead four cylinder Roadster entered the two mile at 149 miles per hour (7 MPH over our own record), and even though we had ZERO compression in three of the cylinders at the end of the three, we still managed an average of 150.7 for the mile, meaning we were truly hauling balls (I swear I saw 5300 which equals 167) before she let go. Unfortunately after the run we discovered the damage, and sadly had to leave impound with the goal of setting a the first banger roadster record over 150 MPH unfulfilled.
