The Fast Four is an inline flathead four cylinder five main bearing flathead produced by Dodge Brothers (pre-Chrysler) from August of 1927 to April of 1928. It was a then state of the art engine with five main insert bearings, five large cam bearings, semi-pressurized oiling, large ports, and a stout crank. It was rated at 44HP @ 2500 RPM, or approximately 35 RWHP.
We have run the engine both naturally aspirated (in 2008 and 2009) and supercharged (in 2010 and 2011). Our supercharged 2010 engine made over 200 RWHP and 240 ft-lbs of torque on the DynoJet www.dynojet.com chassis dyno in Belgrade, Montana.
This magic was made possible by the genius of Tony Smith ~ engine builder, gunsmith, welder, machinist, fabicator, cyclist, husband, father, facebook junky, and one hell of a nice guy. He is also the only guy we know who actually drinks Bud Light Clamato 24 oz cans when perfectly good beer is available.
